I'm a little confused as to why many people don't want their children to hear President Obama's message tomorrow. According to http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/, the President will be telling students across the nation that they need to work hard, earn good grades and get a good education.
Regardless of what one feels Obama is doing (or not doing) for our country, it is pertinent that millions of children hear his message tomorrow. Since when is it not a good idea for children to hear from a successful, outside source that it's important for them to stay in school and do well?
Furthermore, President Obama has only been in office for a mere nine months. People are expecting miracles. Never once were miracles promised during the campaign. Give the man a chance. No one--not a Democrat, not a Republican, not an Independent--would ever be able to bring this country out of a recession in less than a year.
Until President Obama does something that is extremely detrimental to our country and its citizens, we all need to be more patriotic, turn away from party lines and support our President.

Some valid points.
Here is my two cents:
I believe that it is every parents right to decide what is best for their child. Could they just keep their kids home from school tomorrow? Absolutely. Could they send them and have a discussion about it at later on at home? Sure! But how is that up to the rest of us to judge them for that either way?
Any matter...its all about choice...which is what our great country is a big believer in...so I think it shouldn't even be a discussion. We also have the uncanny ability to talk and argue everything to death...which turns into name calling and belittling of those who dont agree. If you want them to watch it, send them to school. If not, dont send them and lets get on with our lives already. There are more important talks that we could be having.
Also, I do think it is dangerous and unfair to call someone who thinks differently 'un-patriotic'. The Declaration of Independence is based on the idea that we can speak out and disagree with the government and our leaders and each other. Trying to tell someone to keep their mouths shut and go with the crowd is wrong. Taking a stand, unpopular or not, is the very essence of patriotism.
Plus, you know...we are a military family and VERY patriotic while still not being huge fans of the President.
I hope you know I still love ya. I have read SO MANY posts on this topic on Facebook these past few days...and this is just what came out as a result.

I definitely agree with you that there are many more important talks we should be having with each other and especially with our children. However, I think that once we stop talking about the so-called “little” things, such as the decision as to whether or not to send our kids to school to listen to the President’s speech (which is moot now. lol), we stop dialoguing. Once we stop dialoguing, we lose the chances we get every day to voice our opinions and have the opportunity to expand our minds or become even more head strong in our opinions.
Also, I admit the patriotic comment wasn’t totally fair. I fell into the trap. It seems that both parties accuse the other of not being patriotic when they don’t support the President. I was called unpatriotic when I refused to support President Bush. Being in the military doesn’t automatically make you patriotic. It’s a choice. In truth, everyone is different. I feel very strongly though that the party lines that have been created in our country are the very thing that will destroy us.
I love to discuss things in a friendly atmosphere (duh, right? lol). I will pretty much shut down or block out a person who can't have a mature discussion about a topic we both may feel strongly about (how on earth does Congress get anything done or passed with all that yapping? lol). That is not a conversation. It is being talked at...and I dont stay around for that. It is also great to learn where someone else is coming from and to see things with renewed perspective. It may not change our minds, but it helps us to appreciate where the other opinion comes from. :)
I did not intend to imply that being in the military makes you patriotic. Of course it is a choice. I, personally, know of no one in the military who is NOT patriotic (having a love or devotion to one's country)...but I know of plenty of people who do not serve in that specific capacity who most certainly ARE patriots. Of course you would be one of those people. :)
I feel that being head-strong (stubborn, determined to have one's own way) is where a lot of this mess comes from to begin with. Politicians (on BOTH sides) have been unwilling or unable to see past their own formed opinions. How on earth is any of it helping us? Do I think one party has all the right answers? Heck NO!! Seriously. We need to fire all of Congress and get some new people in there already.
Would I have sent my children to school if they were of school age? Heck NO! Mostly because we are probably going to homeschool...so...yeah...no school to send them to. lol
